This week in Kindergarten we are looking at the wonders of nature, growth and trees by looking really hard at some very common objects. Acorns.
We read the book:
Whisper From the Woods by Victoria Wirth.
The illustrations in this book are just amazing, with the faces of babies on each acorn, and the roots of the trees subtly depicted with tender hands touching each other in the cold of winter. Students really like to search each picture for tiny hidden items like Gnomes and squirrels.
I brought in an acorn for each student to study and draw from, and we talked about different ways that artists make us interested in small subject matter.
