What’s Inside Us? Fifth Grade

Check out the artwork of contemporary artist Jason Freeny. Some find it strange, some find it awesome. He cuts open real toys and sculpts bones inside of them with modeling clay.

We liked it. We liked the way he took apart things we play with and gave shape to their insides. Its a little bit Velveteen Rabbit, a little bit X-ray machine. Fifth grade students practiced drawing bones. Then they brought in toys from home to study and imagined what their bones might look like if they were cut open. See if you think we stack up to Jason Freeny…I think we do, but I’m a little biased.
